Remote control
Remote control lets your own AI assistant work with xRLive on your computer. Ask Claude (in claude.ai, Claude Desktop, Claude mobile or Claude Code), ChatGPT or Codex to build a visual, change a look or set up your outputs, and it happens in the xRLive app on your computer. Remote control is free for every xRLive account.
1. What Remote control is
xRLive is live visuals software for shows, events and venues: real-time 2D and 3D graphics on screens, LED walls and projectors. Remote control connects the AI assistant you already use to the xRLive desktop app on your own computer, through the xRLive Remote connector at https://remote.xrlive.app/mcp.
- Works with your own assistant. Claude in claude.ai, Claude Desktop and Claude mobile, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex.
- Runs on your computer. Your assistant sends requests; the xRLive app on your computer carries them out and sends back the result, often with a screenshot of the stage.
- Free for every xRLive account. Remote control itself costs nothing. A few tools, such as transcription and 3D model generation, use xRLive credits.
- You stay in charge. Remote control is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off at any time from the app.
2. Set it up
On your computer
- Install or update to xRLive 0.12.6 or later from https://xrlive.app, and sign in.
- Click Remote control at the bottom left of the app, give the computer a name you will recognise (for example Studio Mac), and turn it on.
- Keep the app open and the computer online while your assistant works with it.
In Claude
- Open Settings > Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Enter the URL
https://remote.xrlive.app/mcpand select Connect. - Sign in with the same xRLive account you use in the app (email and password, or Google), then choose Allow.
- Ask something like "Am I connected to my xRLive computer?" to check. Your assistant should list the computer by the name you gave it.
Connectors you add in claude.ai also appear in Claude Desktop and Claude mobile. In Claude Code, ChatGPT and Codex, add the same URL as a remote MCP server or connector and sign in the same way.
After an xRLive update
When an xRLive update adds or changes tools, disconnect the connector and connect it once more, so your assistant picks up the new tool list. You do not need to do this for every update, only when your assistant does not see a tool you expect.
3. What your assistant can do
Once connected, your assistant can:
- Create and edit visuals. Write a new 2D or 3D visual from a description, or rewrite an existing one, and check the result.
- Adjust properties. Colours, speeds, sizes and every other control a visual exposes.
- Move the camera and change post effects, scene setup, lights, objects and 2D titles.
- Save, update and recall presets so a complete look comes back on cue.
- Author timelines with preset cues and keyframes, and play, pause or seek them.
- Work with video. Transcribe footage, find a passage in the transcript and cut ranges out.
- Generate 3D models from a description. This uses xRLive credits, and the app asks you to confirm the price first.
- Set up outputs and projection. Read and change output layouts for screens, LED walls and projectors, and calibrate projectors.
- Manage the network and OSC that connect xRLive to show hardware.
- Show you the stage. Your assistant can take screenshots of the visual, so you both see what changed.
4. Importing assets
Your assistant can bring an image, video, 3D model or sound into a visual. The xRLive app on your computer downloads the file into that visual's assets/ folder, and the visual loads it from there.
- Use a public https link. The file must be reachable at a public
https://address, such as a shared cloud storage link or a file on a website. Files up to 2 GB are supported. - Files attached in the chat cannot be passed. Your assistant cannot hand a file you attached in the conversation to your computer. Upload it somewhere that gives you a public link, and share that link instead.
- Supported types: images, SVG, video, 3D models, HDRI environment maps and audio.
The import returns the file's path inside the visual (for example assets/logo.png). The visual then loads it with the matching loader from the xRLive visual API:
| File type | Loader |
|---|---|
| Image (used as a texture) | api.loadTexture |
| SVG (extruded into a 3D shape) | api.loadSVGExtruded |
| Video (a moving texture) | api.loadVideo |
| 3D model (.glb, .gltf, .obj) | api.loadModel |
| HDRI environment map | api.loadHDR |
| Audio | api.audioOut.play |
Your assistant can read the full description of each loader with the xrlive_describe_api tool (topic api). Large downloads and video conversions can take a while; see long tasks below.
5. Safety and privacy
- Risky changes wait for you. Changes to live output layouts, test patterns on live screens and risky network edits do not happen until someone presses Allow at the computer. 3D model generation also asks you to confirm the price there.
- One switch stops everything. Turning Remote control off in the app stops all remote access at once.
- Nothing is queued. If your computer is offline, commands fail right away. They are never stored and run later.
- Only your own computers. Your assistant can reach only computers signed in to your own xRLive account with Remote control turned on.
- What passes through. Requests, property values, visual code and screenshots pass through the xRLive Remote service between your computer and your assistant. We relay them; we do not store stage images. Disconnecting the connector revokes its access.
For the full details, read our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.
6. Troubleshooting
The computer shows offline
- Check that the xRLive app is open and signed in to the same account as the connector.
- Check that Remote control is turned on at the bottom left of the app.
- Check that the computer is awake and connected to the internet.
Your assistant says it can't create visuals
Your assistant has an old tool list, usually from before an xRLive update or from before the computer first turned Remote control on. Disconnect the connector and connect it once more (in Claude: Settings > Connectors), then start a new chat.
A long task returns a job id
Downloads, video conversions, transcriptions, cuts over long footage and anything that waits for Allow can take longer than one reply. Your assistant then gets a job id instead of a result, and collects the result later with the xrlive_job_result tool. This is normal: the task keeps running on your computer. Ask your assistant to check on it.
